A weekend with Mike

Well blogfans, I haven't written as much as I should like to, but I am at least writing a little, so get off my back. THis week, after spending last weekend with Carly (OK I should tell that story first)

Carly and I spent my birthday looking for furniture for our new place. We ended up getting some great deals at Ashley Furniture in Northbranch. We picked out two loveseats, a slate top coffee table and TV stand, and an awesome smoked glass dining room set. We will end up paying around 1600, and they are going to deliver and set it up. WOW. Then we all got to hang out, which was nice, because we don't do a lot of couple things. We played video games and board games, and I just have to say Battle of the Sexes was made by a female.

We went looking for a car for Carly the next day, but it looks like things are going to work out with the one she has now, so life, as always, remains good.

This weekend, I went up to visit Mike. He is, as you probably know, my best friend. He just got married not too long ago, but they are going to have the ceremony some other time. His wife's name is precious, which is a little hard to get over, but they are happy, so I am as well. Anyway, we played raquetball yesterday with his CO, and that guy womped me. I hadn't been on the court since sometime in April, but even at my best I could probably only steal a set form him. He is really good. Mike, on the other hand, is not so good. H etook me in 5 yesterday, but today, after som erest and rust off, I took him in straight sets. He is a natural athelete, and has great stamina, and if he plays long he will get better than me, but for now I have experience on him. It was fun.

Tomorrow we have a wedding to go to, then probalby hit the pool, and I am sure he will want to go out drinking. I have to take it easy on that though, I am trying to keep my body in good shape for Carly (and for myself) and drinking doesn't help that.

Anyway, Murray, if you read this at all, email me. I want to hang out up there next weekend. It is the end of the summer, and I hate my mom's house ;)

More to come, readers.

The NBA and Me

Well, a lot has happened in my favorite passtime. It is the season of change, and player movement. Of course, I don't care about the whole league, just the West. And this year, the west looks like it is going to have a power struggle
Two Teams really pop out as the fore runners for next year. You have to like what the LA Lakers have done. They went out and signed veteran Gary Payton. Then they outdid themselves and signed Karl Malone for under 2 million a year. Wow. That means they are going to start four all stars (Kobe and Shaq being the other two).
Not to be outdone...ok, well a little outdone, the Timberwolves signed Sam Cassell, former teammate to GP, and the cause of all the pointroversy (that's controversy and point guard all in one-clever, huh) with the Bucks. Of course, Cassell has never been to the All star game, but reportedly, the Wolves are inches away from signing Juwan Howard, the much maligned go-to guy of the Nuggets. Now, though, he can go on being his usual 15 and 8 self, and no one will beat down on him. He is the best second teir player in the league riught now, and he finally gets to sit in the second teir. Now we add Nesterovich (who is being sought after by some other teams as a legit big man), Garnett and Howard in the front court to Troy Hudson (and his late season heroics) Cassell and Wally in the front court. That makes us a contender for 60 wins, and, unless the Lakers outdo us (which is possible) The number one seed in the West. GO WOLVES.

Now, I have to talk about Bron's debut. He scored 14 7 and 6, which is a respectable stat line. OIf course, the rosters consist of guys who have never, and will never play good minutes in the NBA, so it's hard to judge. I mean, Igor Recosivich scored as many points, so did Chris Bosh, Josh Howard, Dwayne Wade, and a host of other no namers. Of course, Bron and a few of those others WILL be names, but let's not all jump on the Lebron hypewagon yet. The real test comes in 14 weeks kid, let's see what you've got.

The Rest of Me

I got up to see Carly over the fourth. I needed that. We camped out and hung out for the whole weekend. It was a very nice change of pace. We azre going to see each other again this weekend. It's my birthday on the 12th. The stars are all aligned and life is good. I won't bore you with the details, just yet.

I have a new summer job. It's not glamorous, but it is fun and gives me just a little bit of pocket money. Can't complain about that. I work about 4 days a week at Pamida. It gives me the time off I need to see Carly, and the money I need to have fun without her. Yay working class.
